Warm up Wednesday: Chai

The weather outside may be frightful, but here's a tummy warming treat to try. This recipe is from the Bible of cookbooks, aka the Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook. Mine is the pink edition (gotta help save the ta-ta's).

CHAI (page 104 of the 12th Edition)

* 1 Black Tea Bag
* 1 3-inch piece of Stick Cinnamon
* 2 cups Milk
* 2 tablespoons raw sugar or honey
* 1 teaspoon Vanilla
* 1/8 teaspoon Ground Ginger
* 1/8 teaspoon Ground Cardamom

In a small saucepan combine tea bag, cinnamon stick, and 1/2 cup water. Bring to a boil. Remove from heat. Cover and let stand for 5 min. Remove and discard tea bag and cinnamon stick. Stir the milk, sugar, vanilla, ginger, and cardamom into the tea. Cover and stir over medium heat just until the mixture is heated through (DO NOT BOIL). To serve, pour hot mixture into warm mugs. Top with a dollop of whipped topping and a sprinkle of cinnamon, if you'd like.

  1. Ooh, chai is my favorite tea! I've never made my own, but that sounds interesting. It looks easy enough that I can tackle it on my own I swore chai had cloves in it. I may add a pinch to see how it tastes. Thanks!
